Pandora meets The Darksiders

This illustration, entitled Pandora, was created for a The Darksiders competition in deviantArt. I pictured it as a scene in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, but with Pandora in the picture instead of Alice. I used¬† two of the Darksiders’ custom figures – War (on his stead, Ruin, as a little artifact) and The Watcher (the entity coming out of the box), I just tweaked their colors a bit.

The Darksiders is a single-player action adventure computer game developed by Vigil Games. Released back in January 5, 2010, The Darksiders can be played in three platforms – Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. Set during the apocalypse, the player get to play War, the second horseman of the apocalypse, and use his sword, Chaoseater.

Who is Pandora? In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman. She was molded out of Earth by the blacksmith god/God of Fire, Hephaestus, by order of Zeus. Out of curiousity she opened a box (Hesiod said it was actually a jar – pithos in Greek) containing all evils of the world, thus releasing it to plague mankind. The only good thing in the box was hope.

Important Note: I do not believe in Greek gods, but I am fascinated with Greek mythology. I treat mythology as just that- myths, stories showing a country’s culture.

War and The Watcher figures are from The Darksiders competition template; textures are from deviantArt.com and other sources.
